Mid December 2025 weekly wrap

By the middle of December, the pace across healthcare, childcare and ICT in Western Australia begins to change. The days are longer, rosters are tightening and conversations increasingly turn to what the next two or three weeks will look like, rather than what can be improved in the months ahead. It is a period where good planning shows its value, and where gaps become harder to ignore.

In healthcare and aged care, this week has been marked by a strong focus on holiday coverage. Managers are confirming leave, reviewing skill mix and identifying the shifts that carry the highest clinical risk if left short. Allied health services are doing similar work, balancing reduced availability with the need to keep core services running for clients who rely on continuity of care. Where planning has started early, teams appear calmer and more confident. Where it has not, pressure is already showing.

Childcare and early learning services are navigating a different but equally complex lead up. End of year transitions, changing attendance patterns and family holidays are reshaping daily routines. Educators are supporting children through excitement, fatigue and emotional changes, while also managing their own energy levels at the end of a long year. Services that are communicating clearly with families about expectations, closures and staffing are finding that trust carries them through this busy period more smoothly.

Behind both of these sectors, ICT teams are working to keep essential systems stable. Rostering platforms, booking tools and communication systems all experience heavier use as schedules change and services adjust operating hours. This is not only desk based work. It includes infrastructure checks, on site troubleshooting and careful monitoring to prevent small issues from becoming larger disruptions at a time when frontline teams have little capacity for surprises.

Across all three sectors, one theme has stood out this week: steady preparation matters more than last minute fixes. Organisations that have mapped their risks, involved the right people early and accepted that not everything can be perfect are generally better placed to support both staff and service users as Christmas approaches. This includes being realistic about what can be achieved, and recognising that wellbeing and safety are closely linked at this time of year.

For BB Recruitment, mid December is also a time to balance ongoing support with clear communication. We continue to work with clients and candidates across healthcare, childcare and ICT to fill critical roles and support holiday coverage. At the same time, we are beginning to share information about our own availability over the Christmas and New Year period, so expectations are clear and no one is left guessing.

In the coming week, our focus will remain on safe staffing, thoughtful transitions and keeping communication open. As services move closer to Christmas, clarity and consistency will be just as important as flexibility. With the right planning in place, the holiday season does not have to feel like a scramble, it can be a period that teams move through with confidence and care.

If your organisation is finalising holiday rosters, reviewing digital support or planning staffing into the new year, we are here to help. Details about BB Recruitment’s Christmas hours will be shared shortly.
